Jiufen taiwan day trips from taipei (1)
Chinese lanterns

Taipei is an exciting city that I want to come back for many times. The atmosphere in Taipei is similar to Korea but it also has a bit of ancient Japan. There are bustling, crowded areas like Hong Kong but its prices are generally very Thai. But these comparisons are just the first impressions, when we do not know what words to describe all the good things of Taipei. When we came back home, we had begun to understand the very special things of Taipei. To help you feel the air of Taipei quickly in the first trip here, I have compiled 12 things to do when coming to Taipei. Living Nomads hope this article will help you in scheduling the trip. Enjoy the bustling atmosphere at the Jiufen Jiufen and Shifen are two so well known places that it should not be introduced much. Jiufen is the ancient village has been commercialized, tourists are quite crowded and the atmosphere here is very bustling. You will be exploring the small sloping roads with only two people in the opposite direction and the main roads are crowded. On two sides of the road are the shops close to many rich products. If at the beginning of the food and beverage eateries who are passing by look for a very attractive smell, the inside road is easier to breathe with the unique, strange or vintage, cute shops. The Jiufen is also the place that Ghibli fans come to because this is the scene that inspired the scene of the famous cartoon "Spirited Away." Drop the light and pray at the Shifen Jiufen and Shifen are usually combined for one day because these two locations share a very convenient route. You can move here by bus or train, to add romance, you should choose the train. A unique point in the Shifenn is close to the railroad is a row of lantern stalls; souvenirs are very interesting but quite "scared". Also, do not worry too much because the store owners will remind you positive when the train arrives, there are both bells and beeps too should not be too dangerous. At the Shifen is the drop light in the sky as in the movie "That girl we pursue" very cute. It is rumored that, if you write the wish on the lamp and drop into the sky, pray sincerely when preparing to drop the lamp, your wish will come true. In my experience, the Jiufen and Shifen are very rainy. Most of it is raining in per time so you should bring umbrellas or raincoats when you come here for a full visit. Check in symbol of Taipei - Taipei 101 The Taipei 101 building is a symbol of Taipei, so there should be a virtual living pictures with this building. The area around Taipei 101 is extremely crowded. There are many restaurants, shopping centers, movie theaters ... so you spoil the discovery here. If you are too busy and want to see the whole of Taipei City from above, you can buy tickets to get the Taipei 101 Observatory. Or you can choose Elephant Climbing, which is also nearby, about 10 minutes walk and save money and still be able to watch Taipei from above, of course the view will not be equal. Check in at Sisi Nan Cun Village Sisi Nan Cun is the area opposite Taipei 101 always, walking less than 5 minutes so you can combine these two places for once visit. It was formerly a collective of 44 military workers, now a complex of exhibits, cafes, and daycare. Living Nomads introduces this area because the picture is quite virtual, but it is very suitable for those who like the gentle Japanese style with a bit vintage. Dining at the delicious Din Tai Fung restaurant You can’t miss enjoy the Din Tai Fung's most expensive meals. Try to eat at the world famous restaurant once! Din Tai Fung has 7 branches in Taipei but for convenience, you should eat at Taipei 101 branch. This is a famous restaurant so there are always long queues in front of the door. Experience as you go to pick up, order food before you go and explore around Taipei 101 as Living Nomads said above, 2 hours come back is on time. If you choose to dine at Din Tai Fung, try the famous Xiaolongbao restaurant. Drinking Chen San Ding bubble tea According to Living, Chen San Ding milk tea is the first bubble tea.Honey bubble tea is a must try and most visitors come here to drink this. Bubble here are tough and soft, eat is to know the home to make so delicious. Maybe, you are not a fan of bubble, but you also have interest in this place. Honey bubble is very generous; half cup high milk tea should be spoiled to drink. Located in the National Taiwan University (NTU) area, there is a long queue of students waiting to buy milk tea. Although crowded but wait about 5 minutes is you can come back to buy it. The location is close to the university, so the area is also extremely busy, the students here are very crowded. From tart, tofu to high-quality coffee shops is enough. You can dine in this area very conveniently. Learn about the history at the National Palace Museum Also called Taipei Palace, the National Palace Museum will be the destination for those who care about history in general and Chinese history in particular. This place will not disappoint you with its 4 floors of exhibits and modern personal audio presentations. As you think you have to spend at least 2-3 hours. The price here is a little bit, about 12 dollars, but it is certainly reasonable investment when the ancient artifacts here are more than in the Forbidden City. . Eat in Shilin Night Market Not far from Taipei is Shilin Night Market, so you can combine these two points together. The night market is a great choice. There are many shops selling souvenirs, cosmetics, pretty little items, and of course countless eateries. Now remember to eat a large chicken piece , two people can eat a full piece. See the flag ceremony at National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall is another must-go destination in Taipei. If you arrive at 5:10 pm, you will be able to see the flag ceremony. There is robe exchange vigilance every hour, starting from 10am to 4pm. Do not forget to visit the National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall in the inner area. The large museum, each exhibit has English comment. Those who have a good understanding of Taiwanese history will surely enjoy visiting this museum. Visiting the Presidential Palace It is very close to the National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, so you can combine these two places together for a convenient visit. The Presidential Palace is located in Taipei, open for visitors. Remember to find on the website to see opening and closing time - because every day welcome visitors is different. Please bring your passport as well as read the requirements on the website because security here is quite rigid Drink tea in Ximending Renowned as the "Harajuku" of Taipei, Ximending is bustling with young people and tourists are always here to have fun, shopping. The night market, shopping centers and fashion boutiques are the main attractions of Ximending. But do you know that, Ximending has the opposite angle in contrast to the busy atmosphere? This place was born in the Japanese colonial period, so it is easy to see Japanese culture in Ximending, especially in the tea shop in this area. Although tea prices are not cheap (18-19 dollars/ tea set) but if you are a fan of tea then you will not be disappointed with the service that this price brings. Watch the sunset in Tamsui Tamsui is the last stop of the red line MRT should be quite easy to go. Just steps away from the MRT station, you will find the harbor and the ancient town of Tamsui. The atmosphere is very bustling and cool. It's easy to find a sunset spot and make 800 virtual live pictures. After finishing sunset, you can get the market behind there, so there are many interesting snack bars. Strongly recommend this place to Chau Kiet Luan's fans. There is also a secondary school where he has studied and is the location of the film "Secrets". There is a restaurant he always used to visit in the past, so that the restaurant is always set Chau Kiet Luan The list is still just a list. I think that guidance, sharing experience will only help you in the preparation and planning the trip. The most important thing of the trip - experience - will be your own. With 12 things to do this, hope you get the most things of your Taipei experience.

I followed the small and long street which is the main axis of Jiufen ancient village, many store, food shops and souvenir shops are close to each other, bustling no less crowded than a Christmas market. It was still raining and humid, a little cold of the winter in the smoke when the restaurant chef opened a giant steamer of dumplings, a very special emotion.

After a short walk will have small slopes cut across, looking up to see an ancient look adorned by the tall hanging lanterns that as an old Chinese street. At the end of the road is a gentle mountain slope, stopping to admire the whole view of the ancient village from above, the far away is the beautiful Taiwan coast, and the winding roads around the mountainside. I found a small teahouse with a balcony overlooking the mountains, sipping tea to feel the life slowly away from the busy streets.

Houtong Cat Village

Houtong Station
Houtong Station

After lunch break, I went back to the bus stop, took the bus 1062 back to Ruifang to catch the train to Houtong Cat Village. Bus stop is right at Ruifang train station. I entered the station, using the Easy Card without buying a ticket, waiting for the train to be about 15 minutes. The waiting area is very good as there is also a USB phone charger for waiting passengers.

The train traveling for a while reach Houtong Station, just get out of the station, the image of the lovely cats immediately hit my eyes. Cats are everywhere, on stairs, train station, every corner, souvenir shops filled with cat products such as keychains, postcards, or a bakery with cakes in lovely cats shape. The most surprising thing is that cats also appear in public restrooms.

Drop the sky lanterns in Shifen

Shifen Station

Due to wandering, I forgot to watch the train schedule from Houtong to Shifen, so I had to wait another 45 minutes because there was only 1 train every 1 hour. The nostalgic train took me to Shifen when it was dark, because the Taipei sky was dark out very quick, it was already dark out at 5 pm. I didn’t get out of the station right away, but stood still for a while, watching the whole scene of Shifen as a prelude, and the main purpose, was to watch the train go through the small street as the time image was gradually goes by…

The railway system here is largely due to the Japanese built in the past to serve the transportation of coal. Today, this place has become a famous tourist destination with images you see a lot on postcards, newspapers are Pingxi rails. The area of Jiufen and Shifen used to be mainly Japanese people, so tourists also have a lot of Japanese people, and don’t be surprised if the sellers speak both Chinese and Japanese fluently.
