Langkawi is located in the northern Malacca Strait near the Malaysia and Thailand border (bordering with Phuket Island). The capital of the entire archipelago is Kuah; Home to the giant Eagle statue, main streets, hotels and shopping malls. On the main island, the topography is mostly undulating plains. The area of the main island in the archipelago is 320km2, much larger than Ly Son or Co To Island in Vietnam (only 10km2), so you can rest assured that you can ride all day but still can not explore all the way on the island!

Langkawi 3 days 2 nights itinerary: How to get to Langkawi?

There are two ways to get to Langkawi.

Option 1: One is to fly with AirAsia for Hanoi – Kuala Lumpur route, then you can stay in the Malaysian capital for 1-2 days and then take the bus to Kuala Perlis or Kuala Kedah in Penang then take a speedboat to the island. In terms of high-speed boat to Langkawi you can refer here.

You can travel to Langkawi by taking the flight of cheap airlines like Air Asia

Option 2: Second, you take a direct flight from Hanoi – Langkawi at quite cheap prices, with a transit in Kuala Lumpur, usually the airfares for Kuala Lumpur – Langkawi route (domestic flights) are very cheap, when I took my trip, the AirAsia’s price was 144 Ringgit/round trip, which means less than $45.

The climate here is quite similar to the southern region of Vietnam, you should come here from March to June, from the end of June onwards, it’s very often rains so it hinders your journey quite a lot.

Langkawi is an island that is heavily invested in tourism by the Malaysian government, so hotels, resorts and guesthouses, or homestays here are countless. From 5-star resorts of reputable hotel brands such as Sheraton, InterContinental, or small, budget hostels, all are present here. For those with abundant financial resources, you should book in big resorts because they have contracted all beautiful beaches, with villas running to the beach with romantic dinners right above the sea for honeymooners. However, in other places, it is not that there are no more beautiful places, but there are still public beaches with long sandy beaches for local people and tourists to bathe.

Upscale resorts often located on the west and north of the island, the top and luxury resorts stretch most of this western coast, close to Langkawi airport and the Eastern Village to the northwestern, where the Skybrigde cable car is located. Room rates for 1 night here range from $150-$200/day.

In addition, you can also choose more affordable options than the hotel that I stayed with smaller but quite complete and comfortable hotels, built in the style of a two-story wooden house and close to the beach, like in the Pantai, Tengah and Pantai Cenang area. The price for the double rooms here is quite cheap, only about $20-$30/day. Usually the inhabitants of the island and the trading areas are concentrated mostly in the central and in the eastern part of the island. Some high-end resorts such as:

The Datai Langkawi: Located in the Northwest of Langkawi, an exceptional resort with a top-down view isolated from other areas, surrounding by primary forest ensures a very fresh air. Price range 3.000-12.000MYR/night. (Check rates on Agoda.com or Booking.com).

The Datai Langkawi

Four Seasons Resort Langkawi: Also located in a secluded northeastern part of the island, with private beach and mountaineering tours for anyone who likes this sport. Price range 2.500-7.000MYR/room/night. (Check rates on Agoda.com or Booking.com).

Four Seasons

The Andaman: Exceptional resort overlooking the sea, very beautiful. (Check rates on Agoda.com or Booking.com).

The best way is that you should book in advance through Booking.com or Agoda.com, or Airbnb.com and easy to choose and the price is very good, you also can cancel the room before departing. You can refer to our room for 2 people at T Star Cottage Langkawi (Agoda.com or Booking.com), located right at Pantai Tengah beach. The rooms here are arranged like rooms in a resort. The rooms are entirely made of wood, divided into 2 rows in the middle with a path with green trees and artificial streams, making the atmosphere extremely airy and cool. The furniture in the room I think is extremely good compared to the price of $38.86/2 nights, nice layout, wonderful bathroom.

Langkawi 3 days 2 nights itinerary: Getting around Langkawi

taxi-to-Langkawi-tours-eagle-island

Right from the moment you stepping into the arrival hall of the airport, you will see a lot of information counters, tourist posters in Langkawi. Step outside is a parking lot with many cars and motorbikes for rent with lots of types and vary prices to choose from. We getting to the hotel by taxi because the taxi fare here is quite cheap, the cost around 20-25RM for the distance of about 15km, but when return to the aiport from my hotel, I asked the hotel owner help me rent a motorbike, the price 10RM/person.

Rent-a-motorbike-Langkawi-island-Malaysia1
You can rent a bike with an affordable price

Usually, the rental price for a day here for a car is RM100-200/day, for a motorcycle is RM15-30/day. The rental condition is that you must have an international driver’s license, but the owner of the rental shop still accepts the Vietnamese driver’s licenses, and they are also very smart, although they do not know Vietnamese but they will flip behind your license and look at the numbers to see if your license is for a car or motorcycle, and for which vehicles. For renting a car or motorbike, you can rent it right at the hotel that I stayed, there is also a full range of vehicles for you to choose. If you meet a shop is too strict about the driver’s license, you can walk out and catch many people renting on simpler terms.

Motorbike is a convenient vehicle and easy to use, while also making it easier to help you feel the sea air in Langkawi completely. However, you will have to get acquainted with the traffic law when riding on the left side of the road here, it took me a day to get used to this rule and sometimes it is still mistaken on the right like in Vietnam. Moreover, when you refuel, you will have to go to the counter to pay to buy gasoline and take the faucet yourself and refuel, very civilized. There is also an interesting thing that petroleum in Malaysia is heavily subsidized by the state, the average price is only half the price of gasoline in Vietnam.

| langkawi itinerary 3 days

In addition, you can choose a taxi as a means for traveling on the island, safer when not used to going on the left side of the road, but also more comfortable because the weather in Langkawi is quite erratic, sunny but rain can fall suddenly. Taking a taxi also helps us feel more secure when going through the winding passes, the two sides only have primeval forests, and is especially scary when it gets dark.

Tourist places as well as hotels are concentrated in the west of the island, so it’s also convenient for traveling and playing here.

Oriental Village and Skybrigde bridge

Oriental Village | langkawi itinerary 3 days

This village is located in the northwest of the island, if you want to get here, you have to go a long winding hill road. The village is designed as a fairground with many stalls selling souvenirs, brocade or even branded goods. The booths are designed with a rather unique architecture, like a truly peaceful countryside. Here are some great services such as horseback riding, watching crocodile shows, etc.

Going deeper into the village is the Skycable cable car area with an entrance ticket price of RM30/person. The cable car has 2 stations, up to the top you can see the entire Langkawi Island and the islets around it, as well as the entire coast surrounding the island. Here you can walking on the Skybrigde suspension bridge, a short bridge connecting the two mountain peaks with fancy architecture. This bridge is voted one of the most unique bridges in the world.

Pantai Cenang beach and Telaga Harbour Park

Langkawi is also famous for its long and smooth white sand beaches. Cenang is a beach that stretches all the way to the west, with some free beaches for residents and tourists. These beaches are often unmanaged and quite cluttered. Walking along the beach, you can go through the private beaches of other resorts, of course there are also some resorts where they lock their beaches to prevent outsiders to visit.

Driving along the west area from the south to the north, passing the airport area, you will see Telaga Harbour Park. The scene here is as beautiful as the high-end harbours in Europe, with hundreds of yachts, large and small, docked here. These yachts are often privately owned, rented to tourists to visit the islets around Langkawi. In addition, here you can buy tours such as sunrise tours, tours to neighboring islands to see eagles. I think going to Langkawi is worth it on these tours, but the beach is not so beautiful as imagined.

Eagle Square

Eagle Square is the symbol of Langkawi with the eagle statue facing sunrise, traveling by speedboat to Langkawi (public ferry), you will see this eagle statue in the distance. This is the eastern part of the island, if you stay here, you will have the opportunity to catch a beautiful sunrise, as well as to live in a more bustling area because this is the center of the concentration of population of the island.

Langkawi itinerary 3 days — What to do in langkawi for 3 days? What to eat and shopping Langkawi

Dining in Langkawi is also very diverse with Muslim dishes and fast food eateries are also plentiful, as this is an island planned for tourism and is a duty free area. Usually, when Vietnamese people come here, they will not be familiar with Muslim dishes because they eat with their hands without using cutlery, the dishes are often spicy and hot. But okay, KFC and McDonald’s are here a lot. I often ate at KFC during my trip.

In addition, the seafood here is also very delicious with reasonable prices, not more expensive than in Vietnam at all though you go to restaurants that look polite and luxurious. In the evening, walking around the beaches, you will meet many close together restaurants serving seafood. The waitresses here can speak three languages: English, Malay and Chinese, and are enthusiastic and attentive. In the last night here we went to a restaurant here and ate seafood, roasted crabs with tamarind and grilled shrimp, the meal cost for the two of us calculated that only about $15, quite full.
