Federation Square

Federation Square3

After a strolling around, stop at Federation Square. Federation Square (also known as “Fed Square”) is located near Flinders street station and St. Paul’s Cathedral, right at the Swanston intersection and Flinders street. Completely opposed to the Victorian period ancient style of surrounding buildings, Federation Square has a liberal and modern architectural style with bold structure, asymmetrical angles.

The Fed Square is a place where all kinds of community activities are happening in central Melbourne.

This is Melbourne’s main public and community living space, where you can participate in many events, activities, explore museums or simply sit and watch passersby. Fed Square is a great relaxing place in the heart of Melbourne. Honestly, I can sit here all day watching the scene without getting bored because there are countless activities going on around, especially the performing arts. Sitting at the Fed Square you will feel how Melbourne is an art, free and liberal city.

At the main outdoor square there is a giant TV screen, often used to show major sporting events such as WorldCup, the Australian Football League (AFL), and at those times the Fed Square is crowded.

Also at Fed Square, you will see a very unique glass and steel block, which looks like broken pieces of mirror, that is The Atrium. The Atrium is a large space for exhibition activities, product launches, and stalls selling a wide range of products such as clothing, cosmetics, and handmade goods.

From The Atrium you can go to Deakin Edge through a walkway. Deakin Edge can be said to be one of the most beautiful theaters / cinemas I’ve ever seen. Still is glass and crystal architecture, Deakin Edge overlooks the Yarra River to the Spire Art Center and Alexandra Gardens. With a capacity of more than 400 people, Deakin Edge is used for movie screenings, premieres, art performances or various events. Watching art performances in Deakin Edge’s space is really bringing artworks to a new level.

Just few steps from the Fed Square, you will getting to Hosier Lane, the alley connecting Flinders and Collins streets. What is special thing about Hosier Lane that I came here? If other cities prohibit drawing in public places in any form, there is a whole area in Melbourne for artists to show their artwork. It is Hosier Lane – the space of street art, where you see many colorful graffiti.

In the evening, head to the Docklands harbour, where the Yarra River flows into Port Phillips Bay. Docklands Esplanade is extremely bustling at night. Here, you will enjoy the panoramic view of Yarra River and the two banks of Melbourne at night, extremely sparkling. And what’s more relaxing than taking a walk in Docklands Esplanade at night and admiring the view?

Having arrived in Melbourne, you can not to be missed the panoramic view of the city from a high height. Do you also wonder what Melbourne looks like from above? So make a trip to Eureka Skydeck 88. As you know Melbourne doesn’t have too many high-rise buildings like other big cities. The tallest building in Melbourne has 88 floors. And on the 88th floor – Eureka Skydeck 88, you’ll see the whole of Melbourne.

The most special thing at Eureka Skydeck 88 is a glass area called The Edge, where you have 360-degree views of Melbourne city. From here you will see how vibrant Melbourne is at night. I just saw Melbourne just modern but also a bit peaceful.

As I said earlier, in Melbourne you will not see the horizon of skyscrapers like New York, Hong Kong or Tokyo, vice versa Melbourne gives people a sense of ventilation, freedom and resting. That’s like life in Melbourne.

It can be said that Melbourne is a very special city. Still the advanced of one of the most developed cities in the world, but somewhere Melbourne is still very ancient and the pace of life is slow, not hustle and bustle like other places.
