3. Taking taxi
The average price from Narita Airport to locations in Tokyo ranges from 16,000 JPY to 22,000 JPY, plus highway fees. You can also request the price specified by region, and the taxi meter will not run. The cost is equivalent to that of a meter, which means it fluctuates around 16,000 JPY – 22,000 JPY plus highway charges.

You can take a taxi at the airport stops, but remember to check in advance to see if the taxi operates at the time you need to use it because some taxi companies do not make long distance trip after 10pm.
In case you have bulky luggages and need to arrive at a particular address not a train station, and you travel with a group, omnibus taxi seems to be a pretty good choice for you. Omnibus taxi is a type of taxi that uses mini trucks with 9 seats, and it stops at multiple locations in Tokyo and Chiba Prefecture with the fare calculated by region ranging from 3500 JPY – 5000 JPY. You can purchase omnibus taxi tickets at the “Green Port Agency” counter (GPA).

How to get from Haneda Airport to Tokyo
Haneda is an airport which was built later and used to share the load with Narita Airport. The highlights of Haneda include observation decks to watch airplanes taking off and landing (you can see them really close as when you are about to go on board) and Edo Koji shopping area, which was built according to Edo architecture. You can find many restaurants and shops with beautiful design as well as handmade products in this area.
In the airport shopping area, there is a Hello Kitty shop, a Hatsune Miku shop and TIAT Sky Road area on the 5th floor where 4 airplane models are available for you to try being a pilot (for a fee) and a lot of airplane models of various airlines along the corridor. Also, on this 5th floor, there is a café called Planetarium Starry Cafe with about 50 seats, opening hours from 7:30 until 23:00. This is an ideal place for you if you are searching for a dark space with a starry sky above to rest before a long flight (so romantic!). I purchased a meal set here, which cost me about 2000 JPY.
Well, that’s enough for now, we have to return to our original topic. But, as you can see, there are interesting places at Haneda Airport where you can kill your time. Also, I spent my entire time at the Departure area of the airport, so there might be some other amazing shops at the Duty Free area which I don’t know of. You should do some research from other sources as well.
Now, back to our topic of transportation, it is more interesting at Haneda compared to Narita because there is the monorail. You can sit on the train and admire the sea view when commuting to Tokyo.
1. Taking the train or monorail (Train or monorail from Haneda Aiport to Tokyo city)
When going by monorail, you will go to Hamamatsu-cho Station, and then transfer to other routes to reach the desired locations. It only takes about 6 minutes from Hamamatsu-cho to Tokyo Station.
To view the Monorail timetable in advance, you can refer to the following webpage, in addition to Jorudan: http://www.tokyo-monorail.co.jp/english/
Departure Station | Destination Station | Line | Time | Ticket Price (Estimate) |
---|---|---|---|---|
Haneda Airport | Hamamatsu-cho Station | Tokyo Monorail | about 19 minutes | 490 JPY |
Haneda Airport | Shinagawa Station | Keikyu Line | about 14 minutes | 410 JPY |
2. Taking the bus (Bus from Haneda Airport to Tokyo city)
There are two types of bus, one is the Limousine bus and the other is the Keihin Kyuko bus. Since there are many destinations in the middle of the route, and different destinations depending on the bus line, remember to ask about the destination before buying tickets.
Departure Station | Destination Station | Line | Time | Ticket Price (Estimate) |
---|---|---|---|---|
Haneda Airport | Tokyo City Air Terminal | Airport Limousine bus | 20-50 minutes | 820 JPY |
Haneda Airport | Tokyo Station | Airport Limousine bus | 25-45 minutes | 930 JPY |
Haneda Airport | Shinjuku Station | Airport Limousine bus | 35-75 minutes | 1.230 JPY |
Haneda Airport | Kichijoji Station | Airport Limousine bus | 45-90 minutes | 1.230 JPY |
Haneda Airport | Tokyo Station | Keihin Kyuko bus | about 55 minutes | 930 JPY |
Haneda Airport | Shibuya Station | Keihin Kyuko bus | about 53 minutes | 1.030 JPY |
So that’s it. Now you may rest assured when travelling to Japan without the fear of being shocked right at the airport!
Here’s a little more about JR PASS (great for those of you who want to move between cities in Japan)
Transportation in Japan is quite expensive (on average, each bus trip costs you 2 USD; and 2 USD for each train stop, the further you go, the more expensive), so if you have a plan to travel across prefectures, it is recommended to buy a JR-Pass depending on the region. If you purchase the JR-Pass All Japan, you can use it for JR (Japan Railway) train and Japanese Shinkansen high-speed train without having to buy an individual ticket.
