Thailand itinerary 8 days: Transportation

The air tickets I booked nearly 2 months in advance but could not book cheap tickets because going on the right of April 30 to May 1 (Vietnamese holidays), at this time Thai people also have Labour Day (International Workers’ Day), so the domestic air tickets also not cheap. We flew from Bangkok to Krabi and returned by bus.

  • Fly Hanoi – Bangkok: Vietjet Air
  • Fly Bangkok – Krabi: Nok Air (land at Don Mueang Airport)
  • Bus Krabi – Southern Terminal (Bangkok): 1.264 Baht

Total cost of airfares, bus tickets from Krabi – Bangkok: $388.16 (12,102.83 Baht).

Getting to Bangkok

The two of us booked Sam’s Lodge ( or hotel in Sukhumvit, the room is super pretty, the hallway is all cute pink (girls love it). The hotel is located right next to Sukhumvit BTS station, the outside of the hotel has many delicious Thai fruit stalls and eateries, only the minus point is that there is a short section with underground sewer tunnel, so it smells a bit, but it’s okay.

Our flight landed at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok at 1PM (Bangkok in the same time zone as Hanoi), for convenient to get from Suvarnabhumi airport to city center, you can take the Airport Rail Link straight to Makkasan station, then change the line to Sukhumvit, the ticket price for 2 people is 70B + 30B (Makkasan + Sukhumvit). Please note that in Bangkok, there are two train systems, the sky train (BTS) and the subway (MRT), which are separate from each other and tickets cannot be exchanged each other. So you should take a single trip without buying a monthly ticket or buying a pass (for 3 days, 7 days or 1 month) is not beneficial because it will not be shared for MRT.

Getting around Bangkok

Bangkok has all kinds of means of transportation to traveling around, the cheapest is a regular bus (like a bus in Hanoi), but waiting long and hot and bus quite bad. In addition, there are taxi, train (MRT, BTS) and songthaew or tuk-tuk.

Khao San Road in Bangkok

Among these 3 types of vehicles, if the road is good, no traffic jam, taking a taxi is the cheapest and best (in km, extremely cheap, we took a trip at night without traffic jam of about 7km but only paid 80 Baht). Of course you have to ask them to turn on the Meter, or else skip.

Tuk-tuk or train each have their own advantages and disadvantages, trains seem to be cheap but not cheap as you think, sometimes not convenient because the tram network is not as many and diverse as in Singapore, may be you have to walk much under the hot weather. Tuk-tuk is more convenient, you can catch it at anytime and anywhere, but they often say overcharge, the driver is unfriendly, the price is expensive, you should bargain less than half of their price.

The first day, we just wandered around some nearby shopping malls such as Pratunam, Siam to buy essentials for the next day to go to Krabi. Evening, we took the train to Hua Lamphong station to go to China Town to play, and just eat and eat. Thai food is super delicious, cheap, and full.

Thailand itinerary 8 days — Day 2: Fly from Bangkok to Krabi – Koh Phi Phi

We got up early in the morning, have breakfast, then took the bus to Don Muang airport, at first we asked a taxi driver to get to the airport, they said 400-500 baht, while take BTS and citybus costs only 150 baht/2 people! Don Mueang airport does not have a train route like Airport Rail Link at Suvarnabhumi, so taxi drivers often say overcharge!

It took 1.5 hours to fly to Krabi by Nok Air, a coastal town in the southern of Thailand. From Krabi we took a boat to Phi Phi Island and spent one day there and then returned to Ao Nang the next day. From Krabi airport to Klong Jirad Pier (this pier located in Krabi Town) about 20km apart, we took the bus to the pier and buy high-speed boat tickets to Phi Phi Island with bus fare of 90 baht/person and the boat ticket for Phi Phi – Krabi route is 700B/person/round trip, if you buy one way is 400 baht.

We stayed at the Marine house hotel of 800 baht/night for two people, the mid-range type on the island, generally quite fine, clean and from here it only took 5 minutes to walk to the pier or the beach. After checking in at the hotel, we run right to the beach only a few steps away, watch the sunset, swim in the sea and back for dinner. The food on the island and other things also as much as in Bangkok, but the price is 1.5 times more expensive. At night, wandering around the island until all my legs tired, vibrant, bustling, the bars are open all night, including fire dancing or Pool Party, rest assured that you can play until morning!
