In the 1950s, Gamcheon was considered a slum because poor refugees during the Korean War all came here. They erected about 800 shanty wooden houses and spread along the hillsides. In 2009, the Korean Ministry of Tourism decided to implement an art project to turn Gamcheon into a cultural and creative destination with the participation of many artists. Those artistic hands have made this slum become lively, attractive, to every very ordinary item such as the pots are also blowed soul in the appearance of a walking group.
