Must eat food in Prague: Traditional food in prague
Ice Cream
We ate ice cream many times in Prague with many different types, and most of its taste was acceptable. Although not as excellent as the Italian Gelato, the ice cream in Prague is simple and also very easy to eat. You can easily find an ice cream on the pedestrian street in the central city or come to some famous ice cream shops such as: Angelato, Crème de la Crème.
Trdelnik Doughnuts (Chimney Cake)
A traditional Czech cake, locally known as Trdelnik Doughnut. There are many types of Trdelnik including chocolate coating, adding fruit, strawberries, even ice cream inside… The basic type will only have cakes made from flour, sugar, cinnamon and some nuts molded in chimney-shaped. If you want to taste more and more flavors, the more expensive it will be, especially delicious with fresh cream inside.
Prices: Only cake costs 60Kc, add Nutella plus 80Kc, add chocolate is 75Kc, add fresh cream is 80Kc.
Parek v rohlíku
The most familiar and easiest to eat is undoubtedly the Párek v rohlíku sausage sandwich, a simple dish consisting of sausage, tomato sauce and mustard sandwiched in a crispy hot bread. Holding a hot and fragrant sandwich while eating and walking on the street is really stylish. You can find them in Malostranská (near the metro station), Anděl (in front of Daichman) and Narodni Trida (next to Tesco MY).
Svíčková na smetaně
A traditional dish consisting of sirloin steak cooked with vegetables, black pepper, bay leaf and thyme, spices and boiled with double cream and served with gravy (meat sauce) and bread.
Then, there’s Obložené chlebíčky (Chlebíček) (which can be called garnished breads), which are served as side dishes and some must-try beers such as Pivo gold beer, Kofola carbonated drink.
Beer
It would be a pity to come to Prague without trying a few cups of beer at the Riegrovy Sady beer garden. Especially in summer afternoons, it’s like a cultural hub and beer festival with a full range of beers. The local girls are all natural and enjoy some hot sausage and many other delicious snacks.
Enjoying Czech beer is as delicious as German beer. Coming to Prague, don’t forget to try the X-Beer 33 beer, rumored to be the strongest beer in the Czech Republic.
Food tour
These food tours help you learn about traditional food information, introduce the history of the city. A standout tour is the Prague Food Tour, a four-hour food tour, walking through the streets and sampled seven different traditional food in Prague. Tour price is 75 euros including tasting and eating dishes, you can find out on their website here.
Tip for a budget meal: Restaurants in Prague often have discounted meals during the week from 11AM to 2PM, you can come and ask for more information from them, but note the menu usually Czech, you just speak English they will advise you.
Best places to eat in Prague: Experience some restaurants in Prague
Restaurace u Labuti
I dropped by at this restaurant on my way down the mountain from Prague Castle. Labuti is located within the premises of a large building. The space is extremely quiet, airy and not many tourists.
The two of us ate quite simply with some pork and fries (also a must-try dish in Prague), squid cake served with mashed potatoes, all come with sauce to go with. In general, it is easy to eat, suitable for Asian people. The price for this meal is 465Kc.

Svejk Restaurant
This restaurant is located right in the most bustling area in Prague. Therefore, the price may be slightly higher than the common price, and crowded, so it will take a long time to queue. The atmosphere is quite noisy because dining outside, crowded with tourists back and forth.
We orderd the traditional Czech dish named “Pečené vepřové koleno”, which is a very big roast pork knee, or pork knuckle. We didn’t think it was that big, too big for us and we couldn’t finish it, still 1/3 of it was left. This dish is quite simple, just cutting the meat and dip it in the sauce. The price for this meal with drinks for 2 people is 650Kc ($30), including VAT.

Restaurant at Dancing House Hotel
This is the restaurant located on the top floor of the famous Dancing House hotel that we stayed during our visit to Prague. Actually, I didn’t eat any main meals here, but only experienced the breakfast buffet and once went to the bar here. Note that the restaurant and bar are separate. The bar is located on the rooftop and the restaurant is downstairs.
The design of the restaurant is quite eye-catching and stylish, following the unique design of Dancing House. We stayed at the hotel, so in the evening we got 2 free vouchers to drink at the hotel bar. From here you can see the city and the romantic Vltava river.
Address: 6, Jiráskovo nám. 1981, Nové Město, 120 00 Praha, Czechia

Restaurant Mustek
This restaurant is also located in the central area and quite close to the Svejk Restaurant I mentioned above. But Mustek is located on a smaller street, and its atmosphere is also more cozy, like in a small cellar.
We ordered soup and a large portion of fried chicken, with extra bread and some beer. The familiar fried chicken taste is quite similar to the taste in Vietnam. Overall good food, well worth the experience.
