I went to Shilin Night Market Taipei on the night near the end of my trip. After enjoying traditional Taiwanese delicacies, I started to crave something a little more exotic. It can be called “unusual” but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t taste good. So, what to eat at Shilin night market and best Shilin night market food? Shilin Night Market blog: Overview

Shilin Night Market in Taipei is one of the largest, most famous night markets in Taiwan and also one of the most popular venues of Taipei’s nightlife to visitors. Located in Shilin district, just 70 meters from Jiantan MRT station.

Location: Located near Jiantan Station
Address: No. 101, Jihe Rd, Shilin District, Taipei City, Taiwan 111
Opening hours: 11:00am – 2:00am
Getting there: Take the MRT-Danshui Line (Red Line 2) to get to MRT Jiantan Station(捷運劍潭線), not Shilin Station. Exit 1, diagonally cross the street to the left to access the Shilin night market.

Shilin night market food: What to eat at Shilin night market?

This food labyrinth consists of two main areas: Local cuisine, goods and along the western edge of the market is the Shilin Night Market Food Court (士林夜市B1美食區), an underground cuisine paradise.

However, at this B1 area will only sell popular specialty dishes, you can come here to try fried oysters with eggs (Fried Oyster Omelette), stinky tofu, classic Taiwanese dishes. You definitely need to try fried oysters with eggs or fried dishes, Zhong Shanghai Pan-fried Buns, Nangang Chang PepperBuns, grilled seafood, dim sum, Sausage Wrapped in Glutinous Rice, Fried Chicken Fillet, Haiyo Pork Soup, Home Cold Noodle, Shiling Fried Lamb, bubble tea… at this food court.

If you’re craving sweets, there’s a classic Taiwanese taro ball sweets that you definitely can’t miss. Or the stalls selling delicious sugar-coated fruit. Feeling thirsty after having tasted all those delicious snacks? Try lemon Aiyu jelly,it’s the best drink choice you can have at a food party at Shilin night market!

But the above ground at the edge of the market is the contemporary breath that makes diners crave the most. At this crowded open-air area with full of stalls, take your time savoring a variety of flavors such as:

Beefsteak covered with melted cheese is a dish that sounds it’s not Taiwanese at all, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth to experience. This dish is also only NT$350 at Shilin, and served in a portable box, easy to enjoy while strolling, completely in the style of Taiwanese street food. Come to 起司先生 Mr.cheese 士林店 (Address: No. 84號, Danan Rd, Shilin District, Taipei City, Taiwan 111/Hours: 5:30PM–12AM). A 3-min walk from the Shilin Night Market.

Foil grilled mushrooms with butter is also a delectable dish that always has long lines queue to try. Giant mushrooms are grilled at a roadside stall in Shilin Market, each portion starting at NT$150, but they have a rich flavor and crisp fresh mushrooms. But the X factor that makes the mushroom dish special is the powdered layer of flavors such as seaweed, wasabi, pepper, lemon, mustard, and chili that helps to blow up and stimulates the taste.

Fruit juice with pearls is both modern with juice, and full of Taiwanese style with pearls. Each cup is only NT$90, but delicious and strange enough for bubble milk tea fans who still like to chew pearls but want to be healthy and beautiful.

Shilin Night Market is not only bustling with impressive street food but also fashion and accessories stalls.

In addition to delicious, savory street food, the market showcases Taiwanese culture in vibrant colors of cheap fashion, with friendly shopkeepers and plenty of cheap clothes! Keep in mind that the quality they offer is not top notch but definitely worth the price you will pay. Scattered the market, there are also game consoles and game stalls such as throwing darts, picking up animals for your entertainment!
