Positano blog: What & where to eat in Positano?
My daily snack in Positano, of course still is Gelato ice cream and fruits at convenience stores. The gelato in Positano is pretty good, although not really excellent. You can easily buy in shops, cafes near the beach.
About meals in the day, the most economical way is still buying at convenience stores, they sell rice, pastas or breads. If you want to eat well, there are many restaurants for you to choose. Prices at restaurants in Positano, of course will be quite expensive because it is a famous tourist destination that rich people visit.
During the 3 days and 2 nights in Positano I often eat at Mediterraneo Restaurant (Address: Viale Pasitea, 236, 84017 Positano SA, Italy / Hours: 12–10:30PM / Phone: +39 089 811651), right next to my room. The restaurant with the main blue tone, specializing in seafood is quite delicious. Especially, all waiters are male, all are elegant Italian male who know how to talk and satisfy customers. The Next2 restaurant (Address: Address: Viale Pasitea, 242, 84017 Positano SA, Italy / Hours: 6:30–11PM / Phone: +39 089 812 3516), next door is also recommended but always out of table if not reserved.
Other dining options

Positano travel guide: Where to go, what to do in Positano?
Walking around the small streets of the center
The central area is not too big but it is enough for me to spend the whole day wandering to explore. The main road with the surrounding houses has a characteristic white tone in Santorini style, overlooking the sea, so you can view the sea at anywhere. Stores, shops and eateries are all very stylish, there are sea view cafe shops located on the cliffs, you can stand by their balcony to pose for taking some nice ‘virtual living’ photos.
Don’t forget to go to the higher points for a wider view, from here view the main beach and colorful houses on the cliffs, breathtakingly beautiful! Even, you can go to the highway, also have a nice view to enjoy.
Positano as well as this Amalfi Coast region is very famous for its ceramic products, and its characteristic is lemon. Lemon is sold everywhere, the dishes from lemon are also many. Don’t forget to look through souvenir shops, pottery shops to choose for yourself items only in Positano.
If you have the opportunity to visit Positano, try to taste the Limoncello wine originating from Naples Bay, made with essential oils extracted from lemon peel and is a famous export product of Italy.
Don’t forget to visit the church of Santa Maria Assunta, the largest cathedral in Positano with a vivid colorful dome in the postcards of Positano. Also, if you have a climbing hobby, you can climb to the top of “Path of Gods”, beautiful view from the top but climbing is not easy.
In the evening, Positano lights up so miraculously. You can choose for yourself a high seat, see panoramic of Positano sparkling. This scene reminded me of Oia village in Santorini, but Positano brought a completely different style.
Relax on the beach of Positano
Positano’s symbol is here – Marina Grande main beach with orange umbrellas spread out in the sun. What’s more wonderful than relaxing and sunbathing here. Rental price for 1 umbrella and 1 bench from EUR12-13. Sea water is also very clear and cool, don’t miss the opportunity to immerse yourself in this cool water.
In addition to the main beach, Positano also has a smaller side beach is Il Fornillo, the rent umbrella and bench is also cheaper than the main beach.
Private boat tour
One of the more luxury experiences that you should do if you have enough money, you can rent a boat to sailing around Positano. You can rent for a few hours to watch the sunset, rent half a day or full day, the price is of course very high but very worthwhile. You can refer to the service here.
Day trips from Positano to nearby destinations
Don’t forget to buy tickets to visit some other places during the day:
Capri Island: The very famous island of Italy is only 50 minutes by ferry from Positano, the price is EUR40/roundtrip. You can spend a few nights on Capri because the island is quite large, many luxury hotels. The price on this island is more expensive than Positano.
Amalfi Coast: Great waters next to Positano, closer than Capri and ferry tickets are only EUR18/round-trip. There are also beautiful beaches here, colorful houses on the cliffs (just a bit less beautiful than Positano). So, what to play in Amalfi?
- The towering Duomo church with a beautiful view of the panoramic view of Amalfi, in the middle of the main square.
- Visit Ravello, go to Villa Rufolo garden, through the terrace to see one of the most beautiful views of the Amalfi region.
- Fiordo di Furore: A small beach between two ravines and connected by a bridge above, this is the symbol of the Amalfi Coast that you can see a lot on Instagram.
Sorrento: Although it’s a transit point from Naples to Positano, but Sorrento also has a lot of interesting things. You can catch a bus back to Sorrento from Positano, or on the way to Positano, stop for a day out. Things to discover in Sorrento:
- Visit the old quarter of Sorrento: wandering the alleys, the old streets and souvenir shops, the Basilica di Sant’Antonino Church and the San Francesco Church Cloisters.
- Cathedral of Sorrento: A striking ancient architectural church with a beautiful clock tower.
- Piazza Tasso: Like the central square, where you can stop to rest, grab food and chat, observe the pace of this small town.
Positano is an expensive place, many celebrities or rich people come here because of its irresistible beauty. Coming here like being lost in a separate world, separate from the outside, this world is beautiful but equally exciting. If Venice, Rome have made you feel bored, don’t forget to put Positano on your itinerary for your next beautiful Italian trip.
