Is traveling to Venice – known as the “city of canals” – as difficult and expensive as people often say? Find the answer in this Venice itinerary 3 days on how to spend 3 days in Venice perfectly below!

When it comes to famous tourist destinations in Europe, the names that immediately appear in each of our minds are: mentioning France is the glamorous city of light, Paris with the Louvre museum and the nearly thousand-year-old Notre Dame Cathedral; mentioning Germany is the capital Berlin – a historical witness, the famous Berlin Wall; mentioning the Netherlands, people immediately think of windmills, Amsterdam with bicycles parked on the bridge over the canal,…

So what about Italy? Surely pasta, pizza; is Milan – the fashion capital, Rome – the cultural and historical capital, with the Roman arena, the leaning tower of Pisa and another attractive tourist destination that I want to introduce is the “canal city” Venice.
Where is Venice?

Venice or Venezia in Italian, is the capital of the Veneto region of the province of Venezia. This city stretches over many small islands, in the Venezia lagoon area along the Adriatic Sea in northeastern Italy. Venezia is built on an archipelago of 118 islands formed by about 150 canals and a shallow lagoon. The city is built from islands connected by about 400 bridges. To better understand the geography and history of this city, you can refer to Wikipedia!

Getting to Venice, Italy

My seven-day trip to Italy. The first “mission” was to travel to poetic Venice and then Rome. I went with another friend, we stayed in Venice for 3 days and 2 nights. I started my journey at night, taking the train from the center of Germany to Stuttgart airport, then with only a 1 hour and 10 minute flight, I arrived in Venice. I booked the hotel and flight about a month in advance through Booking.com and Ryanair. The flight ticket was 9.99 Euros and an additional 6 Euros for a carry-on suitcase not exceeding 10kg, plus a handbag. I arrived at Treviso airport around 8am; then, bought a bus ticket for 12 Euros to Mestre station on Main Island Venice.

Which Hotel Should I Stay at When Traveling to Venice?

The hotel has a check-in time of 2pm and allows luggage storage, so I walked around to see the sights and gradually walked towards the hotel to store my luggage. The hotel I stayed at was Combo Venezia. The rooms here are beautiful, clean and located on the main island. Right next to the hotel is the Water Bus station to the islands of Murano, Burano, or to the center of the island, along the main canal of Venice. To save money and also for sightseeing purposes, we planned to buy 24-hour public transport tickets to the two islands of Murano and Burano. On the other days here, we leisurely strolled around every corner of Venice.

Above are some pictures of the hotel we stayed at, we booked a room in a 12-person dormitory. At first, I thought it was a bunk bed room with 12 people sharing a room, but when we arrived, we found out that we had a private room. This is a huge plus for those who like private space.

The hotel also has breakfast, lunch and DJ services in the evening. There is also a library here. I was really satisfied when staying at this hotel. No need to go far, right at the hotel you can also get a series of super sparkling “virtual life” photos. You can consider staying here, if you have the opportunity to travel to Venice on your own!
Getting around Venice

In this article, I want to introduce famous tourist attractions on Main Island Venice that I have visited and share my experience of traveling in Venice. I will write in chronological order. Because Venice is a collection of islands connected by bridges, the main means of transportation here are water buses, Gondala boats and of course walking. In general, be prepared to walk a lot during the trip, but while walking we can admire the beauty of Venice, which is also very worthwhile.

To prepare well for the trip, Google Maps is a great assistant. Download the map while you are still at home in case you don’t have Internet. My travel experience is to use the paper map that hotels often provide to tourists. On it, there are marked famous tourist attractions, bus and train stations and many other useful information. Note that when in Venice, the streets are quite similar, so in the evening, I recommend you go home early near the hotel area or just walk around the familiar area to avoid getting lost.

How to spend 72 Hours in Venice with Full of Emotions?
Venice itinerary 3 days: Day 1: Piazza San Marco – Grand Canal – Rialto Bridge

The first place to visit in Venice is Piazza San Marco. Here you will see Piazza San Marco, St. Mark’s Campanile, St. Mark’s Basilica, Doge’s Palace, Clock Tower.
We bought tickets to go up to the Campanile for 8 Euros/person to see the whole view of Venice at sunset. You will not regret it at all. Admiring the city tinged with the beautiful sunset from above is an extremely romantic experience for independent travelers to Venice.

After that, we walked along the main Grand Canal and Rialto Bridge to enjoy the bustling nightlife of Venice. The nightlife here can be said to be “full of sounds, rich in emotions”. You can hear the sound of restaurants calling tourists, the sound of water lapping against the boat, the typical music from the performances of “street artists” and many languages of tourists around the world. You will definitely be “bewildered” by the candles and lights that seem to be dancing in the night.

I happened to pass by the famous Bridge of Sighs in Vnice. Here I met a lovely friend who was also taking pictures of the bridge and even guided me to take pictures.

A little tip for you: Don’t miss the Venice Walking Tour to wander through the streets full of Gothic architecture, admire the magnificent San Marco Basilica, the historical site Piazza San Marco and more.
Day 2: Murano Island and Burano Island

On the second day of our trip to Venice, we chose to visit the two islands of Murano and Burano by water pen. For those who love to travel to Venice, Murano Island is probably not an unfamiliar name. The island located in the North of Venice has a rather “modest” population – just over 5,000 people – but owns many famous tourist attractions, such as the Church of Santa Maria e San Donato, the Church of San Pietro Martire or the Murano Glass Museum in the Giustinian Palace. This island is also famous for its sophisticated and elaborate glassmaking.

Meanwhile, Burano Island – with its colorful small houses – will be the perfect check-in spot for Instagram enthusiasts. People here also have the habit of drying clothes and blankets right in front of their houses, creating very unique color tones for each street. Don’t forget to bring your camera when traveling to Venice, specifically Burano Island!

Tip: You can explore Murano Island, Burano Island and many other interesting destinations with the Murano, Burano & Torcello Tour which is being sold at a very “cheap” price on Klook.
Day 3: Stroll Around Mestre Station
On the third day of our independent travel itinerary to Venice, we checked out of the hotel and took a walk near Mestre station. I visited a church whose name I can’t remember, then came across an exhibition called “Spirit of Murano”. Wandering around the streets without any plan is also not a bad idea.
Oh, and don’t miss the lovely antique bookstore in Venice! Here, you can buy English books, old magazines or postcards as gifts for relatives and friends. Passing by the eye-catching fruit stalls, ceramic shops with artisans working hard, we can clearly see the great artistic spirit in this small city.

If you don’t like walking, you can also sit and watch the clear blue water, watch the canoes gliding on the water, making your soul more refreshed and ready to say goodbye to Venice.
So three days in Venice have ended, personally I like Venice in every little detail, the colorful houses, the boats moored on both sides of the small canals, the delicately decorated restaurants, the antique shops,… If I have the chance, I also want to come back here. Hope you all have a great trip, and experience Venice in your own way.
