When coming to Qingtiangang grassland, you can walk on the long historical trail and admire the scenery of clouds, green grass fields and herds of buffaloes grazing on both sides of the trail. Overall, this is an ideal tourist attraction, not too far from the center and suitable for those who want to find a tourist destination during the day.
Overview of Qingtiangang grassland
Address: No. 246, Lane 101, Jingshan Rd, Shihlin District, Taipei City, 111
Located between the peaks of Datun volcano, at an altitude of only about 770 meters above sea level, Qingtiangang grassland is surrounded by mountains, endless green grassland landscapes and unique close-ups of grazing water buffalos. Therefore, this is a place that attracts many domestic and foreign tourists who come here on holidays and weekends.
How to get to Qingtiangang grassland?
There are 2 popular ways to get to Qingtiangang grassland: bus, car/taxi. In addition, I also saw some young people traveling by motorbike on this route. However, the most common means of transportation is by bus or taxi.
By bus
From MRT Taipei Main Station, take bus number 260 to go straight to Yangmingshan Bus station, then here you transfer to bus number 108 to go to Qingtiangang.
Or, you take the red MRT line to Jiantan station, exit Exit 1. Then take bus S15 and go straight to Qingtiangang. However, those who plan to go on the weekend should arrange to go early because there are a lot of people coming here to visit on weekends. The day we went to bus station S15 at nearly 10am, we saw a line of people waiting for the bus that was nearly 2km long.
By taxi
This is the most convenient means of transport if you have your own car or hire a taxi. Referring to a taxi, many of you may think it’s expensive, but in reality, if you go with a group of friends or invite a friend to share, the price is very reasonable and saves a lot of time and health (for those who used to get car sick because the road up here is a bit winding).
That day, I went with 2 people on the weekend so I had to wait in line for the bus for a long time. Therefore, I decided to try asking 2 more people nearby to share a taxi (booked through the Uber app). We took a taxi from Jiantan MRT exit 1 station straight to Qingtiangang, cost about 127 TWD/person (about USD3.99). It just so happened that they were two Taiwanese friends. And we not only reduced more than half the travel time compared to the bus, but also made new friends on the trip. Interesting, isn’t it?

From Taipei, take Highway 2A north to Zhuzihu Lookout. Go right until you reach the Qingtiangang parking lot turnoff. Parking is limited on weekends and the number of cars allowed on the mountain is limited. There is also paid parking available. Therefore, you should consider traveling by public transport as it will be more convenient.

- Lengshuikeng No.1 Car Park (In front of Lengshuikeng Visitor Service Station /charges apply)
- Lengshuikeng Parking Lot 2 (in front of Lengshuikeng Hot Spring Bath)

When walking on the trail, you will easily see herds of water buffalo grazing on the side of the route. In the past, Qingtiangang grassland used to be a place for cattle grazing. However, due to the decline and transformation of traditional agriculture, the demand for livestock farming has also decreased sharply, and now there is no longer livestock grazing here. In addition, the park also added fences along the route so visitors can feel completely secure when walking around and admiring the buffalo herds on both sides of the trail.
Some items you need to be prepared
Food: Because there are mountains and nature up there, there are not many shops and restaurants. So before going, you should prepare to bring food so that you can use it when needed. In addition, this place is also a great picnic spot, where you can sit and eat, chat with friends and admire the surrounding mountains and clouds. So prepare snacks and come here to enjoy.
Umbrella/raincoat: As you all know, the weather in Taipei often has sudden rains. Not to mention the mountains are high, so sometimes the weather will be rainy or densely foggy. Therefore, you should also bring an umbrella or raincoat with you in case you need to use it.
Time to visit: You should watch time your stay here. The best time is around noon (from 10:00 a.m.) to 4:00 p.m. Because if you get here too early in the morning, it might still be foggy. If you come here too late in the afternoon, it will get cold. Surely some of you here will wonder why above I advised you to go early on the weekend, but here I tell you not to come too early? My thought is that you should go early so you can easily catch the bus without having to wait too long. Then travel here around 10:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. is about right.

Return to Taipei around 6pm. Please note the time to return because the last bus is around 5:30 p.m.
Because this is a free public attraction, you do not lose admission tickets. The main travel costs you need to pay: 2-way transportation fees, food and drinks, souvenirs.
Personally, I and my travel companions consider this a very worthwhile experience and should not be missed when you come to Taipei. A day trip, not too far from the city center and brings a feeling of healing, peace and personal renewal. I personally give a trip 10/10. How about you? Are you a fan of natural mountain landscapes, like mountain hiking, or simply want to find a place to relax and picnic after a long week of busy work and study? If so, what are you waiting for? Grab your backpack and go explore Qingtiangang grassland?
