24 hours in Penang — High noon: Visit Kek Lok Si temple and have lunch

After taking a short break, take some time to visit some places before the hunger strikes. Rent a motorbike to Air Itam to visit Kek Lok Si temple, one of the largest and most famous temples in Malaysia. Located on a high hill considered to have both geographical and spiritual significance, the temple was built in 1893 by a devout Chinese immigrant.

Kek Lok Si is really a very large complex of towering temples, many monasteries and beautiful gardens. The main attraction of the temple is a seven-story stupa of Rama VI with strikingly gold peak. The temple is home to 10.000 gypsum and bronze statues of Buddha. The recently displayed 30.2 m bronze statue of the goddess Mercy is another highlight.
