I often spend 2 weekends discovering new things around me, just this time it’s a bit more special because I chose the capital of a Southeast Asian country as a destination. It’s is Kuala Lumpur (KL), the capital city of Malaysia. Day 1: Saigon – KLIA – Thean Hou Temple – National Museum of Malaysia – National Mosque of Malaysia – Petronas Twin Towers – Independence Square – Chinatown

The flight from Saigon to Kuala Lumpur takes about 2 hours, I depart at 6AM at Tan Son Nhat Airport and land at KLIA airport (Kuala Lumpur International Airport) at 9AM (Because Malaysia’s time zone is 1 hour faster than Vietnam). The waiting time for entry is quite long, but in my turn, the customs only asked me a few questions and stamped on my passport. The 2 days in Kuala Lumpur (2 days in KL) journey official begins.

I stayed at BackHome Kuala Lumpur, a very good hostel with excellent ratings and affordable room rates, just a 15-minute walk to Chinatown, Berjaya Times Square and Petronas Twin Towers. With free breakfast, free Wi-Fi. (You can check rates, reviews and book on Agoda.com or Booking.com).

For accommodation in Kuala Lumpur, you should choose the hotel near the center and near the MRT stations for your easy traveling, so you go to Agoda.com and Booking.com to find, very easy and there are many good deals.

I chose Uber as the main means of transportation on this trip, after the agreement, the driver agreed to take me go around Kuala Lumpur from 1PM to 6PM for RM 50 ($11.91). You also can choose the bus or MRT for cheaper.

2 days in Kuala Lumpur: Thean Hou Temple

The first place I went to was Thean Hou Temple. This is a temple built in the style of ancient China, it is rumored that this place is extremely sacred with sray for good chances in love, if you are single, then should not miss Thean Hou Temple! From the balcony of the temple, you can see the panoramic view of Kuala Lumpur in many beautiful angles.

Kuala Lumpur itinerary 2 days: National Museum of Malaysia (Muzium Negara)

Learning about the culture and the development of a territory is what I have always wanted, so the National Museum is the second place I come to. Tickets for Malaysians are $2, foreigners are $5.

The museum is super large with many galleries for each period of history, from prehistoric times to the early days of Malaysia entering the path of complete independence and national development. I feel the way the museum built the models, made the videos of their country’s history very well, easy to remember, easy to enter the hearts of visitors.

What to do in Kuala Lumpur for 2 days: National Mosque of Malaysia (Masjid Negara)

Islam is considered the national religion of Malaysia, so traveling to Kuala Lumpur and without visiting the National Mosque of Malaysia (Masjid Negara) is a big omission. To enter the mosque, I had to register at the reception desk, put my shoes in the cupboard and wear the traditional Islamic outfit. Men don’t need to cover their heads, but women have to cover all their hair.

The mosque is very large, has a large hall for devotees to rest, visit and a main hall for prayer. Here, I was shown how to kneel, how to pray and the basic teachings of Islam. For me, this was a great experience to learn about the beauty of a religion.

2 days in Kuala Lumpur: Petronas Twin Towers – KLCC Park

The fourth spot I stop is nowhere but the Petronas Twin Towers – the symbol of KL in particular and Malaysia in general. This was once the tallest tower in the world, between 2 towers there is a bridge, standing here you can see the panoramic view of the capital. However, the ticket to access the bridge or the observatory is quite expensive and you have to queue for a long time to buy.
