Jagalchi market blog: Introducing Jagalchi Fish Market Busan South Korea (Jagalchi Market Busan, Jagalchi market Busan South Korea)
Jagalchi Fish Market in Busan is not only one of the most famous fish market in the world but also the biggest one in Korea. This fish market is near by Nampo Station, Jung-gu Street. Therefore, everyone who is in Nampodong can walk along to here, go on sightseeing and buy fresh seafood easily. If the fresh seafood are only taken up downstairs, the first–floor will be dried seafood area including dried fish, dried shrimp or dried cuttlefish,… and a particular area for food and drink. When I visited here, most of the tourists came here to eat and drink.
Both outdoor and inside fish market are selling seafood. Also, a lot of small kiosks are displayed to sell fresh seafood and for restaurants, Sashimi are mainly made from the local fish. However, the outside market is not as clean as the inside, in spite of obvious planning.
Jagalchi Fish Market is always closing at 8 p.m so that all counters will start to clean up. However, the food area on the up-stair will be opened until midnight. I’m not sure but about 9:00 to 9:30 p.m, a lot of tourists are still there although they had already done their meal, especially Sashimi – best-seller of Jagalchi Market.
Jagalchi market blog: Some experiences when enjoying Sashimi at Jagalchi Fish Market.
A coworker of Busan one-day Exploring tour told me that he had eaten Sashimi for 40.000 won (about $34.56) the previous day. It is said that Sashimi is very expensive. Therefore, never eat Sashimi alone if you don’t want to break the bank. He didn’t mention where it was, “Just around somewhere in Jagalchi Market”, he thought so. That’s all! I didn’t get any information, except the general price for a set of Sashimi is 40.000 won.
I visited the fish market at about 7:30 p.m, half of kiosks are all gone. Wandering at the Jagalchi market, I found that the seafood were more looking-good and extremely delicious than the first ones. At that time, sellers were making a lot of offers in order to buy their seafood, then they will process at once for you, go to the up-stair and enjoyed you meal. After this experience, I told my friends, then they advised me to go to the upstairs instead, take order and just wait for my meals.
Luckily at that moment, I went to the upstairs first and have a seat on the spot. The more seafood they have, the more crowed it was. Enthusiastically, the hostess asked me what I would like to eat. I said I wanted a set of Sashimi. Right after that, she gave me a menu of all kinds of Sashimi with the cheapest price for a Sashimi is 10.000 won (cheaper than the one costs 40.000 won my coworker ate yesterday).
I asked some fishmonger what fish Sashimi used for. But they said something like “Fresh food, fresh food”. Here Sashimi is served with full of side dishes, fresh fish, soup which is made from fish-bone and its head. And all totally are only 10.000 won. Depending on each different fish, prices are different, too. Although I rather like to use the less expensive one, I feel full to satiety. You will surprise at this awesome Sashimi. It is sort and chewy enough for you to enjoy, especially no fishy smell. That why tourists come here and take a lot of orders. Well, see this Jagalchi Market next time with my fellows!
