If you have a few free hours, you can take a bus for about 3 hours from the capital of Bangkok to Prachuap Khiri Khan province (in the Central Thailand), visit Baan Sillapin Artists Village (also often referred to with the name easier to remember: Hua Hin Art Village, or Hua Hin Artist Village) to visit the unique art space and even be able to create your own creative products by hand. Traveling to the Hua Hin Art Village, visitors feel like be back with the good old days, where they can be creative and immerse themselves in a poetic space.
Founded in 1998 by watercolor painter Tawee Kesa Ngam, the Baan Sillapin Artists Village, is home and working place of the over 19 sculptors, painters, and artists from various fields of art from all over the region of the country the Golden Pagoda, Thailand.
Artist Village is located near the hill west of Hua Hin with a 1.6 hectare area, initially only for local artists sharing art space. Gradually, this place became a favorite destination. Visitors to Hua Hin to find and buy original paintings or to create their own artworks. This is also the place of residence and work of many artists after the exhibitions in Bangkok.
Gradually, Hua Hin Art Village has become a unique place of cohesion among Thai talented artists.
Painting is a major field at Baan Sillapin, however types of art such as sculpture, installation art, design, the art of staging also are introduced by artists.
The space in Hua Hin Artist Village towards freedom of spirit and freedom of thoughts through each painting. Tawee Kesa-ngam is the founder of Hua Hin Artist Village, also is the most famous painter in Thailand. He and his wife wanted to create a space where each visitor would be a true artist, get back to childhood freely and find themselves as a child when the old days come.
“We have always wanted to create a place for artists in Thailand. Creativity is unlimited, and you can delight expressing your thoughts and ideas through personalized paintings and artworks” — Tawee Kesa Ngam said. Some artists even moved and living at here permanently to focus on the arts.
If you want to try creative, you can fully join the classes at here. One of the favorite activities is designing paper bags by acrylic color. Have you ever learn painting or used paint colors? No matter, the artists can guide to you in a very simple way and easy to make.
“At here, there is no teacher or student, it’s just simple a place where you can learn and try to make your own products. We will help you to do that. ” — Nang, a painter who also the workshop’s instructor said.
Just as an art lover, you can come to this small “village” at anytime from 10am to 5pm every day from Tuesday to Sunday (Hua Hin Art Village is closed on every Monday weekly), where you are always welcomed by the friendly and warmly of the artists.
