Seoraksan day trip from Seoul: How to get from Seoul to Seoraksan National Park?
Seoraksan National Park is located in the Gangwon region, which takes about 3 – 4 hours from Seoul by car.
By train
From the your nearest train station in Seoul, going to Gangbyeon station. Here, find the Dong-Seoul Bus Terminal and take the bus to Sokcho Express Bus Terminal. Buses at Dong-Seoul Bus Terminal run every 10 – 20 minutes/trip, operating time from 6:00 am to 12:00 pm. Travel time for this trip is 3 hours.
At Sokcho Express Bus Terminal, you take bus No. 7 or 7-1 to Seoraksan National Park. This ride will takes about 30 minutes.
Cost
- From Gangbyeon Subway Station to Sokcho Express Bus Terminal: 12.800 Won
- From Sokcho Intercity Bus Terminal to Seoraksan National Park: 1.100 Won
Note: If you go on weekends, you will encounter traffic jams because there are many tourists from domestic to foreign visitors to Sokcho.
Tips: To save travel time, not to be afraid of get lost and do not need to change stations many times, you can choose to book a day tour here, you just go to the subway station in central Seoul (Hongik University Station and Myeongdong Station) and get on the car, it goes straight to Seoraksan Park.

And of course, Seoraksan National Park will be an ideal place for a day of trekking, walking, both watching the peaceful beauty of nature here and physical training and take photos. Cable car to Seoraksan Mountain
If you have a tight schedule or are not confident in your fitness, you can buy cable car tickets at Seoraksan National Park. The cable car at an ideal height can give you a wide view to bring an entire Seoraksan into sight.
Operating time: 9:00 am – 6:00pm (every 10 – 15 minutes with a trip)

Sinheungsa Temple
Sinheungsa Temple – the oldest Zen temple in the world will take you back to space in 7th century in Korea.
Just past Iljumun Gate, you will see a charming picture of nature with the mountains dyed with yellow, orange of red maple leaves of Seoraksan. Going deep inside, you will admire the 14.6 meters high Seokgamoni-bul Buddha statue. The bronze Buddha statue that gilded golden is located on a 4.3 meter high lotus pedestal, serene sitting overlooking the superb mountain scenery. Behind it is the staircase leading inside the massive statue. The temple bearing bold the Korean Buddhism style, coming here you not only to admire the ancient religious architecture but also to learn the profound religious values.
Biryong Waterfall
Biryongpokpo means dragon flying. The name comes from the loud sound and magnificent beauty of the waterfall, which looks very much like dragons flying to the sky. In winter, the waterfall will be frozen.
Ulsanbawi rock
This is a huge granite cluster stretching over 4 km. From the top of the mountain, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the majestic picture including the East Sea, Dalma peak and Haksapyeong lake.
Baekdamsa Stone Temple
Baekdamsa temple was built during the Shilla Jindeok dynasty. Later, the temple was destroyed in a fire and after many periods of reconstruction was finally rebuilt as today.
According to legend, a monk at this temple was worried about the temple fires going on repeatedly. One night, an old monk who appeared in the monk’s dream advised to build a temple next to the 100th lake, counting down from Daecheongbong peak. The monk followed the instructions and built the temple in that position, named Baekdamsa, meaning the Temple of the 100th lake. From then on there was no further fire.
Baekdamsa located deep inside Seorak mountain. The temple is surrounded by foothills with multi layers. When the fall comes, the foliage dyed red in a region of space, the clear water flowing murmuring through the ravine in front of the temple, the fresh air here washed away all impurities in the earth.
Baekdamsa is also known as Ven’s Missionary Temple. Manhae / Yongun Han – a monk determined to reform Korean Buddhism. He is also a participant of the Korean Independence Movement and is also a poet with several famous works. The temple also has a monument dedicated to displaying about 800 remaining items from this great monk.
