However, my favorite place is Keelung Miaokou Night Market (Keelung night market), where all the culinary quintessence of the city is gathered. Stepping into the street right at the beginning of the road you will feel like be immersed in ocean of flavors, aromatic, fragant come from countless treet food stalls and vibrant, bustling atmosphere here.
Keelung Miaokou Night Market is located around Dianji Temple at Ren 2nd Ai 2nd and Ai 3rd Street, Keelung City. There are many stalls, shops, and snack carts here, totaling of more than 200 eateries, concentrated in this 400-square-meter area. When walking around this Miaokou night market, you will be mouth-watering from start to finish.
Restaurant owners here compete with each other by delicious and quality food, not by price. So the food is made extremely attractive, eye-catching, stimulating you from flavors to color. So if you’re hungry, you land right place. The ingredients are all fresh and carefully prepared. The important thing is that the price is quite cheap, compared to big cities like Taipei.
This Keelung Miaokou night market attracts many people every day. Not only locals but also tourists. So at night you will see a lot of people flocking here to shop, walk and eat. Outstanding dishes here such as mixed soup, fried fish, meat soup, grilled oysters and meatballs… There are also seafood, fried chicken, desserts such as ice cream, bubble tea… With tons of delicious foof, you only wish that your stomach is big enough to hold all these delectable, attractive dishes.
It can be said that this place is not only famous for its fresh, or processed seafood, Miaokou Night Market gives you a choice between fast snacks and countless other delicacies. Here are the non-seafood dishes (Keelung Night market must eat) you should try:
Shenji Paopao Ice Shaved Ice(沈家 冰) was established in 1976, Shenji Paopao Ice has been a popular stall ever since. The secret of Paopao shaved ice that make it becoming famous is due to the texture of the ice cream, mixing flavors and ingredients into its shaved ice instead of only adding flavored syrup.
Bainian Wujia Ding Bian Cuo(百年 吳家鼎 邊 趖). If you are looking for something traditional but special, I think you should try this soup. This is a Fuzhou snack made from steamed rice flour, served with meatballs and various ingredients, including mushrooms, shrimp, and more. So delicious!
Mini Sausage: You’ve probably heard about the snack called ‘Small Sausage in Big Sausage’ aka ‘Taiwanese Sausage’ (大腸包小腸), but now people tend to eat healthy and the medium sized sausages have become a trend. Location to try: Stall 43-1.
Keelung-style Crab Soup (螃蟹 羹): This crab soup has an extremely delicious taste, it will taste a bit like the famous Ay-chung noodle dish at Ximending night market, Taipei, but the ingredients inside are different with mushrooms, crab cakes and rich pepper taste. You can visit stall 5 to try it out.
Fermented Rice: This is a dish because I was too curious so I had to try it when I saw that there were no foreign visitors coming here, but the locals were extremely crowded. When I tried out, the texture of rice is more like sticky rice, there are many stalls selling this dish and each counter will have a different taste. But you can skip this dish because I don’t find it too special.
