Using the source of ice from the Torne River, the constructions of 2,100-square-meter are made of two layers of walls: the ice wall of the inside and the concrete wall of the outside which covered by snow and ice. To keep the temperature at -5 degrees Celsius, IceHotel uses a natural cooling system with steel pipes drilled straight down to the freezing layer 5 meters from the ground. With this technique, the constructions will be completely separated from the surroundings, so the cool air can not escape to the outside and the hot air can not penetrate into the inside.
